A few weeks ago, a letter arrived from youngwritersusa.com — a submission my daughter had entered on the topic of ‘talent for writing.’ When I read her story, it stopped me cold. My site runs explicitly on a human-plus-AI model — every post is a collaboration, and here was my daughter making the case for the uniqueness of human thought process and its importance for innovations in the future.

The core revelation: human thinking is irreplaceable — not because AI is weak, but because AI works from what already exists. It maps the knowledge base, generates permutations, surfaces alternatives. A human then verifies those alternatives and decides which one points somewhere genuinely new. The repetitive, already-understood work gets automated, however, novel thinking doesn’t.

Nobody is stopping technological development — nor should they. But schools and universities need to actively cultivate the human capacity to imagine things that don’t yet exist. That’s the harder route. Kids will always have tools that offer the easier one.

Great motivation for me - Go Mika!!!

AI is great and extends what we know, however, Mika’s writing reminded me that someone still has to imagine what we don’t already know.
